Boy of Youth
Tumble, tumble, fall away
Hurry boy, before it’s too late
No time to stop or stall or wait
Life's too short to leisurely waste
Like the first lily of spring
Fresh and young, sweet scents to bring
But as the fall winds start to sing,
You'll fade away as bells ring
As the sun will rise and fall
Night will bring dark to all
But as the sun lights its call
Death will knock in cloak and shawl
Yet, fret not, boy of youth
This little song is meant to soothe
Death will come, it is the truth
My precious little boy of youth

Quietly Save Us
By Emily Dobson
We’re all cannibals when it comes to emotion.
We eat each other’s hearts, minds and souls
Until there is no such thing as compassion or imagination.
We place the face of a zombie, classifying it as a monster.
Without the rotted faces and over-accentuated noises, they are human.
We pretend that they are the creatures to run from,
In fear of being eaten alive.
In reality, we should be running from ourselves.
We are the species that feels.
We are the species that complicates.
We are the species that destroys.
Most of us will never taste the flesh of another human,
But we certainly will taste agony.
We are the monsters.
We are the unreasonable.
We create what we break; we break what we create.
This idea of raging, hunger-driven fiends is only to deviate from humanity.
We do not take blame.
We do not accept.
We do not apologize.
Metaphorically, we rip each other apart.
Society has expectations.
Lacking those expectations, you will be slaughtered.
Zombies would be a blessing.
Devouring humans, terminating the virus.
No more suffering.
No more hate.
No more worth.
Equally nonexistent.
Everyone hopes for hope.
People hate the hate.
Nobody loves the love.
There is no cure for us.
We are the monsters.
We are the murderers.
We are the hungry.
We are the infection and we are spreading.

The Infinite Potential Within Human Beings
By: Serena Quinn
Since the beginning of time humans have conveyed endless amounts of potential. There was a period, before electricity, before space exploration and before technological advances, when people noticed a need and filled it with a solution. When humanity lived its days in only the light that the sun and candle light provided, Thomas Edison found an alternative - electricity. When people discovered there was a place called "outer space," Neil Armstrong took his first steps on the surface of the moon. Finally, when technology took a sudden acceleration, scientists could replicate human organs and produce artificial blood. All the people who have been responsible for these advancements are prime examples of human potential. Every human being possess the ability to provide the world with life changing advances.
Thomas Edison, the inventor of the infamous lightbulb, was a person in history who demonstrates the amount of human potential one can have on a society. After many experiments with platinum and other metal filaments, Edison created the first ever lightbulb. As a result of Edison's one invention, the world was made into a much brighter place. Today, many places are powered by electricity and every room is brightened by a lightbulb. Edison's drive to invent a device so necessary to our daily lives today, conveys how human potential can be harnessed by any individual, and used to make the world a better place. The fact that Edison used his own knowledge, along with the realization of a need in society, identifies that humans have an infinite amount of potential.
Furthermore, when astronomers discovered that Earth was not the only existing planet in the universe, Neil Armstrong was sent into space. As he took his first footsteps on the surface of the moon he spoke the words, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."(Armstrong) These words alone vividly portray the affect that one person's actions can leave on the entire world. Since Armstrong walked on the moon, it has sparked the interest in coexisting planets within the galaxy. Most recently is the fascination with mars, which has lead astronomers to send out a mars rover to study the planet. Mankind exploring a place so far away from home only further supports the fact that humans have the ability and potential to do what ever they set their minds to. Years before Armstrong landed on the moon, people believed that travelling outside of Earth was impossible. Years before that, philosophers believed that the world was flat. This demonstrates the level of intellectual thinking that humans have developed over time and how some of the most absurd ideas can be the basis of a world changing discovery of something much larger than mankind itself.
In addition to the invention of electricity and the discovery of space, the most recent phenomenon would be the advancement in medicine and science. Technology has become the most useful source for finding cures to what seemed like incurable diseases and creating machines to examine the human body and mind inside and out. Scientists have been working with stem cells, that can be injected into any damaged part of the body. These cells then take on the role of the cells in that particular area. Other medical advancements include artificial blood which has been known to carry out the function of real blood within the body. Furthermore, human organs can be scientifically constructed, from only a tiny amount of cells, outside of the body, and then can be surgically placed inside the body to replace a damaged organ. All of these advances in technology and medicine have created a more hopeful world for disease stricken families. These amazing abilities have been made possible by the immensity of human potential. Some people devote their lives to finding ways to heal and cure the sick, and because of this strive and perseverance, progression such as stem cells, artificial blood and artificial organs has been made a reality. Ultimately, because of the potential that human beings withhold, people with illness can be healed.
In conclusion, Humans posses an unlimited amount of potential within the world. The power to develop a solution to a need within the world will continue to better the lives of human beings far past the extent of how it does today. The invention of electricity and the lightbulb, the discovery of space, and medical breakthroughs made possible through the advancement of technology are only a couple of examples of what human potential has lead people to accomplish. Because there is no end to human potential, people will go on to create realities that seem unimaginable in today's norm. As long as there is a need to be resolved, and an idea or theory to work upon, human potential will live on within human beings for eternity.
